The benefits of hearing aids in a person’s ability to communicate, their overall socialization, their mood, and their cognitive ability (ability to think and reason) are well known and proven in multiple large studies. But a March 2015 study in the peer reviewed journal Laryngoscope has shown another unexpected benefit: improved balance.

While the hearing and balance systems are very close to one another inside our heads, their relationship is not always clear. The authors admit they do not know why people with hearing aids have much better balance, but the data is unquestionable:  Those who use hearing aids have significant improvement in their balance.

So the next time you or a loved one is considering a hearing aid, add the positive affects upon balance as another good reason to re-enter the hearing world.
